NBA Finals 2023

We are down to the last two, from the Western Conference the Denver Nuggets take on the Eastern Conference Miami Heat. My pick is for the Heat to take the title in six. Often, teams going to the finals for the first time have to lose a final to win a final and I see the Nuggets that way. They'll lose this round but go on to create a dynasty.

The Miami Heat have won before and, importantly, their coach has too. Eric Spoelstra has won the NBA Championship twice with the Heat, 2012 and 2013 - back-to-back. He knows how to win and proved it yet again with that classic seventh game in the series against the Boston Celtics. He simply organised things so that the Celtics couldn't play. The Heat had control pretty much the whole game.

The Nuggets will be rested, but has that been a help or a hindrance? Going into the series and having witnessed the Heat's rise, they'll be nervous and justifiably so.

An interesting battle awaits.

Update: Got this badly wrong, the Nuggets took it 4-1, quite easily really. The Nuggets team played as champions and Jokic is an inspiration.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Separation Rumours

I'm surprised it lasted this long. But consider this, if Harry is no longer living with his wife, can he remain in the US? Assuming he's in the US on a spousal visa, if he is no longer with a US citizen, he may have to return to the UK. What does he actually do for a living or what business does he own in the US?

Wagner Group Boss

Wagner Group boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin is always in the news. His latest outburst was rather interesting and the below link tries to explain why he says what he says:

https://julianmacfarlane.substack.com/p/the-new-russian-revolution-or-ukraines?r=28f8t2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

Very clearly, these pronouncements are for the Western Media rather than Russians who are mostly entertained by his outbursts and vulgarities. In Russia, Yev’ is a character. The Bad Boy Who Made Good.

In the West, they say he “makes sense” when he massages their delusions, playing fast and loose with facts, as Simplicius has noted. For example, he quotes Wagner losses at 20,000 compared to Ukrainian losses of 50,000 when talking of Bakhmut.

My idea is somewhat different. I think Prigozhin sees himself as Putin's replacement. Putin could well be suffering a terminal illness and given he's something of a romantic when it comes to the Russian Empire, he could have ordered the invasion of Ukraine to bring it back within the fold before he dies.

Blog Reaches Record Levels

This little blog has reached record levels, surpassing my previous highs reached in 2017. Of course, since 2020 Google has done their best to crush it since I don't believe there was this thing that made everyone sick, nor a thing I prefer to call the scamdemic, and I oppose governments trying to kill everyone with a death jab.

My Useful Links page is one of the most visited. Right near the top you will find links to Covid-19 studies and opinions that are being suppressed. Stuff 'they' don't want you to read. You really need to scroll through and read some of it, all of it if you have the time.

See the page here: https://kenhorlor.blogspot.com/p/interesting-links.html

Also, if you feel like supporting my work, the nicest thing you can do is buy one of my books. The following are the Amazon links to each title.

Criticism of Meghan Markle

I am a critic of Meghan Markle, otherwise known as the Duchess of Sussex, but I think my views are more balanced. Recently, I've noticed a trend on social media that appears to be a concerted attack on her from all quarters. Most of this criticism, I believe is either unfounded, unfair or unbalanced. I'll explain why:

1. She was penniless and a greedy grasping grifter when she met Prince Harry

I don't see how the two notions, pennilessness and being greedy sit easily alongside one another when talking about Meghan Markle. Which is it? Critics have her on yachts and charging for her time, taking whatever she can and expecting huge sums for those roles she did get. If that's the case, then what did she spend on? People have gone over her life and cannot find any evidence of largesse.

For those interested in a deeper dive, I've worked out what she was worth when she met Harry, I blogged about it here: https://kenhorlor.blogspot.com/2023/01/meghan-markle-how-wealthy.html

Her critics appear to not understand that you cannot have it both ways. If she was penniless then there must be evidence of her wasting her money, but there is no such evidence.

2. She did not own a house or apartment

She had been moving a lot. When she left home it was to university in another state, then she returned to Los Angeles where she met her husband before Harry. Then to Toronto, then London. Owning a house would become a millstone around her neck, and not buying a house made sense. She finally bought a house when relocating back to California with her family.

On the wider topic of wealth, we know nothing of what she owns as an investment or what trust structure she has in place to protect that wealth.

3. She's a liar

This is a more subjective matter, has she lied? Claiming to have a double major when it was a single is no big deal and I have addressed this before. Given she did do an internship at the US embassy in Argentina, I'm inclined to believe she completed 300 level international relations and she probably feels this qualifies for that major even though she isn't credited with it. The points still get added into her degree and that's what matters.

The racism claims, while overblown to produce maximum exposure, probably have some basis in fact. Everyone experiences bias, prejudice, racism against them and to think this wouldn't happen in the British Royal Family is naïve in the extreme.

But what has Meghan Markle said exactly that heavily criticises her own family? If you think about it, she has said very little. She has said nothing of her mother's side of the family, and only briefly mentioned her father's side. She considers herself an only child, and that is true in simple terms as she is the only child of Thomas and Doria Markle.

4. She manipulates Harry

Last I checked, it was Harry's name on his book Spare. No-one made him put his name to such a disgraceful publication. When he was promoting the book, she was noticeably absent, and I believe it was for good reason. Who would want to be associated with such a thing?

Criticism can be made of Meghan Markle. My main point is she could have left the BRF with a billion in her pocket. But, she knows how to make a buck and what do I know. She's got the structures in place to merchandise to her heart's content. A recent announcement had her being taken on by the WME agency (now known and Endeavour Group Holdings). These people must see profit in it or they wouldn't put pen to paper. I noticed the announcement only concerns her, it did not say Harry was being taken on.

5. She's a nobody

At the moment she walked down the aisle, she was the most financially successful woman to marry into the BRF since the Second World War. Compare her with all other candidates and see that while they're all wonderful, in terms of finance, only Meghan Markle was worth millions due entirely to her own efforts.

Some people knew of her. I had never heard of her, but did know of the cable legal drama, Suits. She had a small fanbase and likely earned enough from her website and side deals alone to live on. Harry was lucky to find her and that she agreed to marry him. He'd been turned down previously and now upon publication of the book Spare, we can see why.

If we look at Meghan Markle's upbringing, place she grew up, education, occupation, and level of success, it could be expected that she'd set out to monetise her newly acquired status. I'm somewhat surprised that people are surprised to discover this.

Will she move on, and is Harry being phased out? Who knows, but nothing would surprise me. While Harry has royal status and that connection alone is worth something, he lacks the nous required to advance in the US.

Elon Musk Finds New Twitter CEO

The new CEO of Twitter appears to be Linda Yaccarino. I checked out her LinkedIn and found this:

Yaccarino is the Chairman of the WEF's Taskforce on Future of Work and sits on the WEF's Media, Entertainment and Culture Industry Governors Steering Committee. She is also highly engaged with the Value in Media initiative.

I'm glad I never got back on Twitter after being permanently suspended. Musk has taken everyone for a ride.

Oh, and Tesla's are rubbish.

Noam Chomsky and Jeffrey Epstein

Well, that's weird, why would the two be meeting?

https://unlimitedhangout.com/2023/05/investigative-reports/unraveling-the-epstein-chomsky-relationship/?ref=unlimited-hangout

According to the Journal, Chomsky’s meetings with Epstein took place during the years 2015 and 2016, while Chomsky taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT. Chomsky told the Journal that he met with Epstein to discuss topics like neuroscience with other academics, like Harvard’s Martin Nowak (who was heavily funded by Epstein). On a separate occasion, Chomsky again met with Epstein alongside former Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, allegedly to discuss “Israel’s policies with regard to Palestinian issues and the international arena.” A separate date saw Chomsky and his wife invited by Epstein to have dinner with him, Woody Allen and Allen’s wife Soon-Yi Previn. When asked about the dinner date with Woody Allen and Epstein, Chomsky referred to the occasion as “an evening spent with a great artist.”

NBA Play-in Tournament Proves Itself

Basketball

The NBA playoffs are underway in the US and currently two teams doing well qualified for the playoffs via the new play-in series. This is where teams finishing from 7-10th in the regular season from each conference play a qualifying tournament.

The Eastern Conference, Miami Heat and Western Conference Los Angeles Lakers are both at the conference semi-final stage and doing well. I hope the NBA keep this format going, it provides more entertainment and the teams that advance from the play-in can do well.

Texas Proposal: 100% Gold and Silver Backed Currency

An interesting development from the Texas Legislature:

https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/texas-committee-passes-bill-create-100-reserve-gold-and-silver-backed-transactional

On May 2, a Texas House committee passed a bill to create 100% reserve gold and silver-backed transactional currencies. Enactment of this legislation would create an option for people to conduct business in sound money, set the stage to undermine the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money, and possibly create a viable alternative to a central bank digital currency (CBDC).

The Coronation

I've been asked, will I be watching King Charles being crowned on Saturday. Yes, I'll watch some of it, but not everything as it'll go on too long. I'm interested to hear if the King declares himself defender of the faith, or as defender of faith. If he says the latter, well, I'll be appalled.

Will Prince Harry be in attendance? Park him in a side area with a curtain around him so those in Westminster Abbey don't have to see him.

But, for the bigger picture, I'm feeling sad for the UK as a whole. They have two unelected leaders, King Charles and Rishi Sunak. I'd like to see democratic rule return, and the reinstatement of freedom of speech. The Conservative Party have had 13 years and the country has gone backward. About time to see some significant change.

Update: I watched some of it, and found it all a bit boring to be honest. Pippa Middleton was looking hot, so there was that to cheer me up. And yes, stealing the show was Penny Mordaunt, the first female Lord President of the Council, carrying the sword and looking rather hot too.

Prince Harry was there, shame about that. There was an inclusion about fostering faiths, but it wasn't offensive to Anglicans. And it was good to see the Gold State Coach. I can see why King Charles wanted to shorten the ceremony, even at its current length it seemed a bit long.
