The North Korea weightlifter had her clean and jerk ruled out by the judges, after she got all lights up from the referees. She made a perfect lift, textbook. This is flat out political, nothing else explains it.

Revealing Themselves
They do reveal themselves in the end, don't they! Former New Zealand Prime Ministers, John Key and Helen Clark are in Beijing at the moment, partying with all the other bad-boy leaders. Now we know who these two were really working for.

World War III Kicking Off
North Korea are readying for war. Their leader has just announced that South Korea are to be described as their 'number one enemy'.
I find it hard to believe that North Korea just came up with this approach on their own. China and Russia must have agreed with the announcement.
I see commentators saying that North Korea wants engagement and this is another attempt to seek that. I think this is misguided thinking as North Korea have had a windfall with their arms sales to Russia. It appears likely they're now using this income.
A brief history lesson: the Korean War kicked off when the Russian and Chinese backed North launched an attack on the US-backed South in June 1950. The war swung back and forth but came to a stalemate by 1953. Today, the two sides sit looking at one another, with the conflict technically still live, there has been no peace treaty.
Add to the mix, China's claim on Taiwan and its push into territory in the South China Sea.
Then in other regions, we have the war in Ukraine, with Russia about to win. We have genocide in Gaza with the US, apparently, tacitly supporting this atrocity. The Red Sea is effectively closed to commercial traffic and the US and UK look ineffectual in trying to keep it open.
China and India are still fighting over their borders, as are Iran and Pakistan.
Venezuela has claimed half of Guyana.
Turkey has no idea which side to take, while the Baltic states must be feeling nervous. Why Sweden gave up its neutral stance is a complete mystery.
This is becoming so complicated, it is hard to keep up. I feel like a ball bearing bouncing around in a pinball machine. Another pandemic must be on the cards.
And where does New Zealand and Australia fit in? Not very comfortably is the immediate answer. Neither has the capacity to supply itself or defend its sea lanes. The way things have been left to atrophy is an utter disgrace. We are led by donkeys.

Looking at Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un together, I have to say Trump looks overly cheerful, almost desperate even, while Kim looks bored and disinterested, as if he's thinking does he need to stick around any longer, 'let's get out of here and back to my nukes.'

War Looming in the Far East
I have already posted about the massive military build up occurring in Japan right now. You'll remember the US warship that ran into a cargo ship in Tokyo Bay. That likely happened because the US are starting to fall over one another. Also extremely busy are the Kanagawa area US Naval Air Facilities.
Now with President Trump issuing stark warnings to North Korea, I'm predicting war will result. Somewhere along the line the US made the decision and pushed the 'go' button.

I've got friends living in Yokohama, Japan and they tell me the US Navy base at Yokosuka is the busiest they've ever seen it. Also extremely busy are the Kanagawa area US Naval Air Facilities. Planes are flying in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Locals are complaining of the noise. Bear in mind all the various crises over the decades, but they say the bases have always just been ticking along despite that. Not now, now they're really ramping up. Based on this evidence I'd say the US is preparing for war and not just talking tough. Who will that war be with? North Korea is my suggestion and anyone else who takes their side.

Trump: The Turning Point
US President Donald Trump, according to news reports, is at an all-time low approval rating for US Presidents. But this could change if he manages to achieve a satisfactory resolution to the three items currently on the agenda.
1. Syria and their War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
We've all seen the horrific images on the television, civilian communities being gassed. Children amongst the victims. Syria has lost the plot and stepped over the line.
The USA will likely intervene in some way, and the whole world should support them if they do. Done right, decisively, with weight behind the punch, President Trump will surely be saluted.
2. Trade and China
China has the playing field tilted toward it. Everyone else is running uphill. They write the rules, interpret those rules, and then cry foul when anyone questions them. This approach has seen China accumulate massive wealth. But it has to stop, it must, or the US and the rest of the western industrialised world will be pushing handcarts. President Trump seems to grasp this and his approach with the Chinese President will be interesting to observe. Is President Trump the great negotiator? We are about to find out.

Then we have the unstable and, quite frankly, loony North Korean state. It appears they only listen to China, and China entered the Korean war to support them just as they were on the brink of losing. So there is history as they say. How President Trump juggles this and trade with China will be crucial. He must be strong with China on trade but also diplomatic in getting China to rein in North Korea.
The stakes for President Trump are high, get at least two of the three sorted in his first term and he'll soar in the ratings and be re-elected. If he falls over and can't seem to deal with things, he may not even get to the end of his first term. Interesting times as they say.
