Digital ID Needed to Underpin AI
Keir Starmer has announced plans to make a digital ID mandatory. I expect moves such as this to go global. Our data is needed to be centralised so AI can exploit it.

New Zealand Says NO to Recognising Palestine - for Now
New Zealand has taken the sensible approach. I was a bit worried that NZ would jump on board the bandwagon that Australia, Canada and the UK had joined.
The government has decided against recognising Palestinian statehood, retaining its "when not if" position at the United Nations General Assembly.
Its rationale is that with Hamas in place as the de facto government of the Gaza Strip and no clarity on next steps, there is not a fully legitimate and viable State of Palestine for New Zealand to recognise.
The decision leaves New Zealand with a handful of countries including Singapore, Japan, South Korea and the United States, who have not made the move.
Comey Indicted
Former FBI boss, James Comey, has been criminally charged with making false statements and obstruction of justice.
Expect more arrests related to what is generally categorised as Russiagate.

An Englishman Reacts to Trump's UN Speech
Is Donald Trump being a voice for the voiceless? First JD Vance and now Donald Trump call out the European elites. I call these elites Count von Wotsits. There's no democracy in Europe, they just put up the façade.

UK Recognises Palestine - Here's the Bill
Palestine say to UK: thank you for recognising us; that will cost you two trillion pounds. This compensates them for the illegal occupation and subjugation of their territory, and now selling arms to their oppressors.
Sounds fair, and while looking at this, Australia are recognising Palestine too. So, under international law and seeing as Australia has been oppressing them too, Australia needs to take in all those Gazan refugees. How about South Australia? Even Australians laugh at South Australia, so this should find wide acceptance. What has South Australia got that would not be improved by hundreds of thousands of Gazans?
Australian Media Reaction to Trump at UN
Donald Trump's speech at the UN was hilarious, especially when he launched into the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and then describing global climate change as a con job. Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese has been chasing headlines recently, but may now find himself out of favour. One must wonder whether Australia will be delivered those submarines...eh what?
I swear, when Trump described wind turbines made by China as useless, while China itself runs on coal and gas, I thought I saw a half-smile from the China desk at the General Assembly. Trump said, they're not stupid, and no, they're not.

Oil and Gas Strike Zones
New Zealand has a lot of oil and gas potential, but only the Taranaki area has productive oil and gas wells. Just now, I quickly drew up the below map to illustrate where the strike zones exist, have a look at it. There are other areas farther offshore, but I've omitted them for now. All those areas displayed are accessible both from onshore and offshore.
Taranaki is in orange, all other areas are crimson in colour

New Zealand Top 8
New Zealand finished in the top 8 at the World Athletics Championships. That is, fifth equal alongside Sweden, Botswana, and Spain.
Australia was 15th - one solitary gold medal
Britain 21st - no gold medals
If there were an award for the wooden medal, 4th, then both Australia and Britain would be competing for that prize. They're the perennial bridesmaids, the pair of them.

World Athletics Championships - Tokyo 2025
The World Athletics Championships currently being held in Tokyo are delivering up some interesting results. Overall, many countries are doing well, and the medals are spread widely. Great Britain and Australia are noteworthy for just how badly they're doing; neither has won a gold. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
New Zealand is currently in fifth place alongside Spain, with two golds and a bronze. The four countries ahead of them are, in ascending order, the Netherlands, Canada, Kenya and the USA.
New Zealand's approach to developing athletic talent appears to be bearing some fruit. It's tough getting somewhere when you're a New Zealander, as the government expects instant results, and the taxpayer only supports, in a meaningful way, those in the world's top 10. Meanwhile, the US has its collegiate system able to develop talent; they plough through hundreds of athletes looking for that special one. But at least the NZ system of nurturing those with demonstrable talent does result in something. What the country could do is broaden the net somewhat by offering more support for secondary school athletics. The obsession with rugby has got to be reined in, give sports where individuals compete more of a chance, and by that I mean athletics, tennis and golf.
People will be aware that NZ also produces excellent sailors and racing car drivers. Sailing gets a lot of support from the government as it is a vote-buying exercise; Aucklanders all own a boat, and the government constantly chases votes in Auckland. Meanwhile, motor sports are left for those who can afford it. There are no votes in it, so the government doesn't get heavily involved.
This vote-buying behaviour from the NZ government is one of the reasons the country is in deep financial trouble; money is not spent where it is most productive, but rather, it is used to pander to the electorate.

Media Are Dinosaurs
If you peddle lies constantly, actively try to undermine the government, fail to report the news accurately; what can you expect to happen?
About time pulling broadcast licenses has started to be talked about. I saw somewhere that Donald Trump is suing the New York Times for $15 billion. This isn't a free speech issue, you lose the right to free speech when you start yelling fire in a crowded theatre. Wiser heads warned of this, and now it could happen.
France the New Sick Man of Europe?

The cost of servicing national debt this year is estimated to be €67 billion - it now consumes more money than all government departments except education and defence. Forecasts suggest that by the end of the decade it will outstrip even them, reaching €100 billion a year. Last Friday, the ratings agency Fitch downgraded French debt, potentially making it more expensive for the French government to borrow, reflecting growing doubts about the country's stability and ability to service that debt.

Keir Starmer and Donald Trump
The US President, Donald Trump and the UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer have held a press conference together.
Question: have you ever seen a British prime minister weaker than Keir Starmer? I don't even want to use his knighthood; properly, he's Sir Keir Starmer, but he's done nothing to earn it. The British Empire is now but a husk of its former self; it now has these limp wrists leading it.
