Trump v Biden v RFK Jr

2024 US Presidential candidate, Nikki Haley has dropped out of the race seeking the Republican nomination:

https://twitter.com/NikkiHaley/status/1765404983451697340

That leaves three main contestants:

Donald J Trump - Republican

Joe Biden - Democratic

Robert F Kennedy Jr - Independent

RFK Jr may become a spoiler as he is easily capable of winning a large percentage of the votes. What happens if no candidate reaches the 270 Electoral College votes required? The Hill has the answer to that, and yes, it gets complicated:

https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/4502438-what-if-no-candidate-wins-270-electoral-votes/

If no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes, the Presidential election leaves the Electoral College process and moves to Congress. The House of Representatives elects the President from the three (3) Presidential candidates who received the most electoral votes. Each State delegation has one vote and it is up to the individual States to determine how to vote. (Since the District of Columbia is not a State, it has no State delegation in the House and cannot vote). A candidate must receive at least 26 votes (a majority of the States) to be elected. The Senate elects the Vice President from the two (2) Vice Presidential candidates with the most electoral votes. Each Senator casts one vote for Vice President. (Since the District of Columbia is has no Senators and is not represented in the vote). A candidate must receive at least 51 votes (a majority of Senators) to be elected. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.

TVNZ Crisis

First it was Warner Bros. Discovery announcing the closure of New Zealand's TV3 news department; now state owned TVNZ are about to make major cuts to their news section.

Hah, brilliant, these people conspired against the people, now they're about to lose their jobs, well, boohoo, they'll get no sympathy from me.

Supreme Court's Trump Ruling

The US Supreme Court has ruled States cannot kick Donald Trump off the ballot:

States have no authority to remove Donald Trump from the 2024 presidential ballot, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday, short-circuiting efforts by his detractors to declare him disqualified over his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

George Galloway Wins Rochdale

The UK just saw what may become a trend when the general election rolls around later this year. Former UK Labour MP, George Galloway won the Rochdale by-election on a platform of reviving the town's fortunes, saving its soccer team, and ending the UK's complicity with the genocide in Gaza.

Just to put in sharp focus what just happened in Rochdale; the much touted Reform party couldn't even manage third place when all they had to compete with was Galloway, and in second place a bloke who got out of bed the day before candidates had to have their paperwork done, thought why not, let's give it a shot. Then, ahead of Reform, a Labour candidate who wasn't a Labour candidate, or he was kinda sorta; we'll never know.

And then to cap it off Reform's leader, Richard Tice stood beside his Rochdale candidate who had been thrown out of Labour for sending inappropriate messages to a 17-year-old girl. Yeah, the people of Rochdale gave the Conservatives, Labour, and Reform a huge FU.

New Zealand's Healthcare Recruitment Dilemma

New Zealand likes to recruit nurses and doctors in the UK. The numbers applying to emigrate have dropped off, and the below image explains why. NZ has a requirement for the workers to be fully jabbed. But, as you can see, 60-70% of nurses and doctors in the UK are NOT fully jabbed.

Carbon Hysteria

I found the following article interesting and funny. The person being interviewed thinks a new religion is emerging, based around ecology and saving the planet. It has become heresy to question climate change or its causes, and carbon has become the new evil doer. I talk about this new religion in my book Snob's Guide to New Zealand.

Here's the interview: https://internationalman.com/articles/doug-casey-on-why-the-carbon-hysteria-is-a-huge-threat-to-your-personal-freedom-and-financial-wellbeing/

Look, this is all about politics and money, but disguised as a religious movement, which is quite clever. There’s no question that Greenism is being promoted as a new religion.

Christianity is a dead duck in Europe, and it’s dying in North America. But people need some type of religion, a replacement for Christianity, to hold on to.

People will be encouraged to treat their taxes as tithes to wash away their sins against Mother Nature—much the way they tithed the church to expunge their sins in the Middle Ages. It’s an exact analogy. They’ll buy “carbon credits” as an analog for building cathedrals and monasteries.

Carbon Passports

How long will it take before you become the carbon they want to reduce?

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/02/leo-hohmann-report-calls-limits-air-travel/

Their ideal world is digitized, downsized, dehumanized, depopulated and generally feudal in nature. If they succeed in imposing their ideal system on the world, we will see millions starved to death by their war on food and farmers. Thank God the farmers in Europe have awakened to the real purpose of the climate scam, which is to destroy their livelihoods and their ability to feed the world. If these globalist scum succeed, most of us will not live to see 2040. And those who manage to survive in their dehumanized, top-down, control-grid society will be either rich or poor, with very little in between. This is a war on the middle class, on traditional values, on the value of work and the nuclear family.

Super Bowl LVIII

Being a sucker for punishment, I endured yet another Super Bowl. I still don't fully understand the game, but things are now a bit clearer for me.

I appreciate defense, and I could see that this contest was one where defense played a major part. Then when each play of the ball occurred faster, rather than be interrupted by timeouts, the game tended to come alive and become interesting.

Some aspects of play do still annoy me; when the ball is kicked off, and the kicker puts the ball out over the end of the field, that should be a penalty back at halfway or something. Instead, the receiving team start at 25 yards automatically. The other thing that annoys are incomplete plays. Both intentionally kicking out over the end of the field and throwing the ball out intentionally should be actively discouraged IMHO. Keep the ball in play, make the players play.

The end of the game was fitting though, with Hardman receiving the ball for the winning play. He was left wide open and the Chiefs quarterback made a skilful pass to him.

And I did note Travis Kelce bullying the coach. Someone has got to talk to him and get him to pull his head in. That kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable.

Anyway, I'm sticking with both kinds of Rugby; Union and League football. They both offer more continuous play and are a real test of skill and stamina.
