What's Up Between FIFA and Trump?

At last someone has called this out. FIFA is meant to be about sport, and sport is meant to be above politics - right? 

Well, no, it appears FIFA has crossed the line. It's about time another organisation took over world soccer - or association football for all you nerds who insist on the correct name.

In recent years Gianni Infantino, the most senior official at the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and Donald Trump have been hogging international sporting, and political headlines.

The latest came on Thursday 19 February when FIFA announced an initiative to assist Mr  Trump’s Board of Peace rebuild Gaza using sport. Mr Infantino’s declaration to “foster investment into football for the purpose of helping the recovery process in post conflict areas” was made at the Trump Peace HQ.

Mr Trump’s ethically questionable control over world football seems mild in comparison with command of violent ICE agents or his takeover of Venezuela. But as always with Mr Trump, he has managed to gatecrash and despoil much of what he touches; in this case, the world’s beautiful game.      

Putin, Epstein and Trump

It makes sense that Jeffrey Epstein had deep Russian links. A lot of Soviet Jews emigrated to Israel after its creation in the late 1940's, thus, there are established relationships between Israel and Russia, at least at the business level.

Venezuela, What Went Wrong?

The US is moving significant assets into the Caribbean, apparently with the intent of tackling Venezuela. There's a lot of speculation going around about what the US has planned; it could just be sabre rattling, or they could be about to bring about regime change. Who knows?

Those who have been around a while will remember that Venezuela used to win Miss Universe titles. I looked it up, and they won seven times. Venezuela was the Riviera of South America. They have the world's largest oil reserves, and at current rates of extraction, almost 900 years left in the ground. And that's proven reserves; there is still much to be discovered.

Basically, Venezuela should be richer than Saudi Arabia. So, what went wrong? They became communist, that's what went wrong. As a result, they slipped into the abyss.

If the US does go into Venezuela, so be it. I'm not going to get bent out of shape over it. Call me consistent, Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine was wrong, but I don't think anyone should get involved in a war within Russia. I know, Ukraine is separate, but it's really part of Russia, depending on how you read the history of the region. With Venezuela, it's in the USA's backyard, they probably think it's about time to free up that oil. 

Trump's Tariffs

Here's a useful graphic outlining the tariffs as they apply to ASEAN and neighbouring countries in Asia:

This is a retrograde step and I think the Trump administration have got this badly wrong. There will be an initial uptick as US importers pay these tariffs, resulting in a lower US deficit, but then things kick in which the US has no control over. For instance, countries will increasingly just deal with one another and ignore the US.

Trump Crashing Global Trade

Here's a YouTube video where the bloke thinks there's not a lot of thought gone into the current trade war, started by the US. If there is any sense to it, then, possibly, it is intended to force a renegotiation of any trade rules and relationships that do exist. The idea being to skew those new deals in favour of the US.

My own idea is that this government of billionaires are intentionally crashing the market. They make money short-selling on the drop, and then buy up entire industries when it bottoms out. They'll end up owning everything this way, and for cents on the dollar. If this is even close to their thinking, that is very dangerous indeed as it may become the French Revolution all over again.

What authorities and elites fail to remember, is that the thin blue line is a very thin line when the proverbial hits the fan.
