I've been calling for this for a long time; a centrist political party to replace National. DemocracyNZ could be that party. They're founded and led by former Northland MP, Matt King. During the scamdemic I embedded videos of King interviewing epidemiologist Simon Thornley about Covid. King is a clear thinker and opposed mandates. Now he's also criticising Labour's fart tax proposals which will rip the heart out of rural New Zealand.
Travelling around NZ, Matt King is drawing hundreds to his meetings. More than 400 attended one meeting in Christchurch alone. That's significant as Christchurch is heartland Labour, but it also has a couple of suburbs that are blue hair-dye National. If the National leader held a public meeting in Christchurch, he'd struggle to get 200 to attend.
