Russo-Ukraine War 2022

I've got a question about the current conflict; what happened to the Ukraine Air Force? I ask this question because, right now, there are widely publicised photographs of long convoys of Russian military equipment heading into Ukrainian territory. These present prize targets.

If we go back a few days and to the start of hostilities, Russia made several strikes on Ukrainian air bases. These appeared to happen without any counter. Looking at the equipment available to the Ukraine, they have 98 operational fighter jets, plus surveillance planes. Ukraine knew they were about to be invaded, why were they not ready, with forces able to get up and engage the Russian Air Force?

All this seems rather obvious to me, but I've rarely seen the question asked by MSM. Implied in what I'm saying, is that the Ukrainian Air Force have not been fully on board with their president and have simply sat to one side. It's unpalatable to consider, but it is an inescapable conclusion based on the complete lack of opposition to the Russian air superiority.

Then we have the capital city, Kyiv. While about to come under possible bombardment, the street lights are still on and people drive around with their headlights on. I find that somewhat peculiar as well.
