If the outlandish statements Donald Trump is making are not because he has decided he doesn't want to be President, then maybe the strategy is to set the bar so low to begin with, that he can now soften and not seem weak. The bonus is the Clinton camp are now talking about Trump a lot, which is akin to free advertising for Trump. The race is certainly not over yet, and Trump may win.
