That Oprah Interview of Meghan Markle

I've seen the Oprah interview of Meghan Markle on CBS, Sunday 8:00pm, the 7th of March EST in the US. It was a cringeworthy affair, and not particularly interesting. I noticed a slight change in the appearance of Meghan Markle, she's now trying to look like a Kardashian. I also noticed she's changing the way she speaks, also sounding like a Kardashian. An example being her pronunciation of sure. The s and u being said with a pronounced sh sound, and the r accentuated - shurrr.

You don't need to watch it as I've done the work for you, here's a transcript; moan moan moan moan, victim victim victim, racist racist racist, oh woe is me, right right right, moan moan moan, unsurvivable, moan moan moan. Get the idea?

There are laugh out loud moments, especially from Harry who isn't allowed his own face time with Oprah. No, he has to have his hand held by Meghan who can be seen to squeeze it when he either says too much or says the wrong thing. She's obviously wearing the pants in the relationship. I laughed when Harry talked about not being able to ride a bicycle when growing up. I mean, does he have no sense of self? This immensely privileged and grossly spoilt brat had palace grounds to ride his bike around in. He rides polo ponies as a pastime.

And what is it with Harry, he looks almost homeless. He can't pull his socks up and his shoes had holes in the bottom of them. His beard looks shabby. Has this man no pride in his appearance? I find it hard to believe he grew up a Royal, then went to Eton and then Sandhurst. He looks as if he's been dragged through a hedge backwards.

It was very disappointing Oprah did not ask Meghan about her side of the family, you know, the Markle's and the Ragland's. Clearly, there were indeed some interview no-go areas.

My advice to the Queen; throw the pair of them in the Tower. That's what the first Elizabeth would have done.

Harry and Meghan on Beverly Ridge

It has been reported that Harry and Meghan Markle are holed up in Tyler Perry's house on Beverly Ridge in Los Angeles. Since the trails near the home have reopened, screens have been erected to prevent walkers from seeing into the property, see the below photo:

It did occur to me; are they really there? The videos they've presented show the pair may be living in much more humble surroundings. I wonder if this address is the future site of a reality TV show involving the Markles. The screens, to prevent rival cameras recording what goes on. What do you think?

And one other observation, people may have seen a different Harry on one of those videos. This was a Harry with different colour hair. It wasn't a body double as some have suggested, no, I think this was Harry dying his hair in an attempt to be able to move around LA without being detected. My guess is such attempts would be unsuccessful; he'd be ignored if they did recognise him as royals in that part of the world aren't real celebrities.

Queen Sugar

I've just started watching the second season of Queen Sugar. I like the show but I have two critical observations. The first is that the whole idea seems very similar to the Australian drama McLeod's Daughters.

McLeod's Daughters started as a TV movie in 1996. It was about two half-sisters inheriting their father's farm in outback Australia. They decide to keep it and run the place themselves. It became a television series in 2001. Doesn't this sound like Queen Sugar? In that show two daughters along with a brother (who is never able to do anything right), decide to take on their father's sugar cane farm after he suddenly dies. That's kind of the same framework isn't it?

The second criticism is the kind of farming decisions they make. It's not at all like farming. Now I guess the farm is just the backdrop but they could at least make an attempt. In the first episode of season 2, Ralph Angel is wrestling with his tractor and gets a lesson in depreciation from his well-heeled sister. Suitably put down, Ralph Angel sulks some more. Except neither are right. That's right, you would not go and shell out for a flash tractor for only 800 acres. Likewise you don't go throwing money down a hole on some old worn-out wreck.

What they'd do is set about finding a bargain, how many hours a week would the tractor do and what kind of tractor is best suited, with the hours in it to at least get through two seasons. Then go and find that tractor, scouring the state and neighbouring states as well. Never going to auctions as you'll only find junk there, only dealing with dealers of sound reputation, or buy privately from those who can produce the maintenance receipts. Do the oil checks, engine, transmission etc., then buy at the right price. Their father brought them up on a farm, right? Why do they not know how to buy the right kind of tractor?

Anyway I'm still watching it, even though they have it on near midnight. It's probably all this tractor stuff they get wrong explains why so late. I'm in New Zealand and we take tractors seriously.

Oprah Winfrey for President

As a result of Oprah Winfrey's outstanding speech at the Golden Globe awards there is a clamour for her to stand for President of the US in 2020. She'd be good in the role and this isn't the first time such a prospect has been mentioned. I remember at one point speculation over her being the first black President.

There are one or two impediments to her candidacy and I won't dwell on these just yet, wait for the bible belt to do that. My concern is why would she? Wouldn't she be more valuable and more of an influencer being an even bigger media mogul? An Oprah IPO would be worth billions and with that she could buy a major player, networks, communications companies, film studios. She could be the next Rupert Murdoch.
