The NBA's Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, certainly set the Frost Bank Center on fire when he scored 40 points, took 20 rebounds and made seven assists against the visiting New York Knickerbockers. A 40/20/5 from a rookie is a pretty rare thing indeed.
But, don't get too excited. The game was essentially meaningless to all intents and purposes. The Spurs have been eliminated from the post season, while the Knicks are through to the playoffs. So, what just happened was the usual statistics padding exercise. There was very little on the line other than pride.
While Wembanyama is an outstanding player, we are yet to see if he can withstand the pressure of season after season in the NBA.
