Sam Ruthe has just become the youngest man to ever run a sub-4 minute mile. He's only 15 years old, and set the record at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on March 19, 2025. He's from Tauranga, New Zealand and looks like a young John Walker, a fellow Kiwi who became the first to clock under 3:50 for the mile and the first runner to sub-4 over the mile more than 100 times.
Anyway, good luck to Sam Ruthe. New Zealand is heading into a golden age for athletics once again, with a Kiwi being the reigning men's high jump Olympic champion, and now a group of male middle distance runners emerging.
