Have a look at this analysis of what happened at the Donald Trump rally. The better angle for clipping Trump's ear is from the window of the building, not from where Thomas Matthew Crooks was positioned. Also, refer back to the video I posted where the sound of the first three shots indicates they came from inside the building:
